The wolf
The wolf was thought of as a spirit brother by the native americans. Then later the Europeans came to America. They had all sorts of crazy ideas of werewolves and evil in their heads and killed off some wolves. But it wasn't until about the 1800's that the slature began. The bounties for each wolf ranged usually between $50 and $150 dollars. It didn't matter weather the wolf was male or female, young or old, just so long as it was a wolf. Many subspecies were brought to extinction as a result, such as The Great Plains wolf. For some people it was a time to celebrate when a wolf subspecies was wiped out, but for others it was a time for mourning. For the vicious creatures wolves were supposed to be there were no attacks on humans by healthy wolves.

The wolf today.
It is estimated that there are only 9,000 wolves right now in the US. In Canada there is an estimated 52,000. So maybe you should think more carefully about that house you wanted in the middle of nowhere or the true pine, etc. wood for that banister and instead think of how you can help to save the animal who hunts and lives there, the wolf.
